It's Been a Year!!!

Well I can't believe I've been in business a year this month.  Wow how time flies.  I've learned so much about having a business & have lots more to learn.  I've met lots of great people & made some really good new friends.  I had an open house to celebrate one year in business. We had some refreshments & got to visit with lots of people.  Thanks to all who have helped support me in so many ways.  I pray that there will be many more years to come.

Now the Holidays are approaching.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Years.  Right now is a great time to be working on making your Christmas cards or making gifts for Christmas.  I hope everyone is making time to do some type of hobby.  It sure is good therapy to have a hobby.  I've got a couple of new lines in recently.  A Christmas line from Lily Bee that is super cute.  Lots of browns & turquoise.  Then I got a racing line from Moxxie.  Racing is big out here.  There are 2 Race tracks in Crandall & one in Ennis.  I also just got a Farm Livin' line from Moxxie.  It is super cute too.  Will be great for my 4H folks.  I have a Valentine line coming from Jillibean that should be here any day.

On a personal note...we still have the little boy we are unofficially Fostering.  We have had him almost 3 months.  We are working with him on some delays & getting some services for him.  He has been such a blessing to us.  Christmas should be fun with having a little one around.  Please pray for God's will for this little boy.

Yeah for Fall & cooler weather!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather.  It is such a relief after such a hot summer.  Well alot has been going on since I was on here last.  Me & my husband are fostering an 18 month old little boy.  He has changed our world & we love it & him.  On the business side...I've got lots of new product & just placed orders for new lines coming in for the next few months.  Kaufman is having a Scarecrow Festival this coming Saturday, Oct. 22.  They start with a parade at 9:00 that will go through the square.  There will be vendors all around the square & there will be live music all day.  We will have a booth setup so come by & say "Hi"  Also Still Waters will have a store front setup with lots of goodies for sale, info on the next GIRL talk & registration info for our Golf Tournament.  Then the next Saturday, Oct. 29th there is a Holiday Shopping event at Whitworth Ranch in Scurry.  This is the retreat place we went to back in August.  There will be lots of vendors there as well & we will have a booth setup.  There is a raffle for a free weekend at Whitworth.  Tickets are $10.00.    Fall is a busy time for Fall Festivals & craft fairs.  I hope everyone is starting to think or shop for Christmas.  It will be here before you know it.  I have gift certificates for those hard to buy for folks.

Back To School

Can't believe summer is over & it's time for school to start.  The weather is still very much summer though.  I hope Fall comes early & we get lots of rain.  June & July have been busy.  Had a kids camp in July.  The kids had lots of fun making items for back to school.  They made altered composition notebooks, clipboards, a pencil holder, & paper bag album.  I will continue to have a kids class once a month.  Been working on some t-shirt quilts for folks.  Have lots of things coming this Fall.  Kaufman Chamber of Commerce is having their Auction the end of Sept.  Kaufman Scarecrow Festival is the end of October along with a Holiday shopping event at Whitworth Ranch in Scurry.

And speaking of Whitworth Ranch we just had our first scrapbook retreat there.  We had so much fun & the Ranch is beautiful.  I actually got some of my own scrapbooking done. Got my pictures from 40th birthday which was in May, all in a book.  That's a good feeling to get a whole scrapbook done.

So many Holidays are around the corner.  Already busy making Christmas gifts.  Never to early to start.  Lots of new babies being born which I've been busy making custom baby items.

So enough about me & what I've been doing.  To God be the glory as this store wouldn't exist without him.  Hoping to host a movie date night in Sept & start a woman's bible study soon.  I meet so many woman with this business & so many are hurting or  just have junk going on in their lives.  Been reading the book Lies Woman Believe & the truth that will set them free.  It is a great book & hope to do the bible study based on this book.

I will try & get on here more often to give updates.  Please share this blog with your friends.  Come & check out the shop or join us for a crop night.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Well it's been a super hot summer & with no rain.  It has been a busy summer too.  As you see I haven't blogged in awhile.  Lots of good stuff going on at Faithful Scrapper.  I've had lots of classes this summer & have had lots of new folks coming.  I moved the crop room around trying to make it seem bigger.  Thanks to my friend Gena that helped move tables not just once but more like 3 or 4 times until we got it the way we liked it.  I've been getting new product in.  Trying to get the old out & in with the new.  We will be doing our first scrapbook retreat in August so that is exciting too.  Have a Kids camp scheduled for next week.  Haven't filled it up yet so hopefully there will be more kiddos sign up.  Oh the biggest of all is I renewed the lease for another year.  Yeah....This time last summer  with lots of help from family & friends we were cleaning & organizing the store.  November will be our 1 year anniversary.  God is good.

Fall is around the corner & already booking events for the store.  September we will be making cards to send to troops via Operation Write Home. The Kaufman Chamber of Commerce will also be having their auction in Sept & will donate something to them.  October we will have a booth at the Kaufman Scarecrow Festival & then a booth at Whitworth Ranch in Scurry for a business expo.

Well just wanted to update everyone.  I will try & do better with blogging.

Summer time!!

Today is the last day of May & then here comes June.  June means summer time, schools out, pool days, vacations, & lots more.  Make sure you take lots of pictures this summer.  Your kids grow up so fast so you want to capture these summer time memories.  Here at Faithful Scrapper I've been busy with Graduation gifts, baby shower gifts, & then trying to rearrange the store.  I've been adding new products so I've moved things around making room for the new items.  The store also got a face lift. A new coat of paint does wonders to a building.

We will be attending the Great Amercian Scrapbooking Convention in Arlington, TX this coming Saturday.  This will be my first time to attend so I don't really know what to expect.  Knowing me I will be overwhelmed. Then I have a vacation planned & will be closed June 9-13th.  Everyone needs a vacation even if it is just time off from work to sit around the house.  For June we will have classes on making altered tags, an envelope album, decorating a 5x7 canvas & then of course having crops.

Happy Easter

Well the store has been busy so I haven't had time to blog.  That's a good thing right?  So getting more classes set up & getting ready for National Scrapbook Day there's lots of fun coming.  Been getting a few new things in here & there.  What is the saying?? In with the new & out with the old.  Well I'm working on it.....slowly but surely.  Can't wait to see how the store grows.  It's been open now almost 6 months.  Boy does time fly.  It has been a great experience & as I call it an adventure.  God has been good & as long as I put him first in this business I know he will do great things.  Bigger & better things than what I could do on my  own.  Happy Easter to everyone...

Spring Break

This is the first spring break I've had to work in 13 years.  I use to work at an elementary school before opening Faithful Scrapper.  Kind of strange not getting a whole week off. I do have some events going on this week at the store & hope those of you that have stayed in town will stop by & check out the store. I have a kid's class on Wed. an all day crop on Fri. & a beginner class on Sat.  Check out my Facebook page under Faithful Scrapper for event details & to reserve your spot.
I hope even with gas prices that everyone will have a great spring break.  Especially all my teacher friends.  You all deserve a break.  Get lots of R & R.

Spring is on the way

So I'm really behind posting on here.  Now that the weather is getting warmer it is getting me more motivated to be creative.  Lots of new people have been stopping by the store.  I've met such wonderful woman.  There are so many creative woman out there.  I've learned lots.  A piece of scrapbook paper can be used for so many things.  I have a friend that uses the paper to decorate wooden crosses, others make cards, another lady was using paper on furniture with Modge Podge.  There are so many creative ideas out there.  Feel free to share your ideas.  I've got lots of classes coming up for the spring.  Thanks to my friend Jennifer for teaching these great creative classes.  I couldn't do it without her.

Icy weather

So it's been a few days since I've posted anything.  We have had icy weather and I've had the store closed for 2 days.  Planning on going in tomorrow and hopefully everything will be ok.  No frozen pipes & hopefully will have electricity.   As I've been home I've been working on some of my own scrapbooks for a change.  I never get to work on my own as I'm always making books for other people.  I've been on Facebook alot the last 2 days as well as everyone else that has been home due to the weather.  I can't believe how many people are tired of being at home & are bored.  REALLY????  How can you not have some type of hobby.  I love being at home.  My only problem is the little bit of OCD I have really kicks in & I'm walking in circles in my house.  I'll scrapbook, then check the laundry, then clean something, then go scrapbook, then cook something, then fold laundry, then scrapbook, then sometimes I forget what I'm doing.  Maybe that is old age...  So take advantage of this weather.  Clean out a closet, catch up on your scrapbook, wash all your "gentle" items, or whatever hobbies you have pull them out of the closet & work on them.  Hope the weather warms up though as I'm not a cold weather person.

Last night Crop

Boy, when you get older it sure is hard to stay up late.  Had a fun crop though.  Mostly friends & family.  Had several people cancel due to illness.  I think Flu has hit. Because of my past job working at an elementary school I have been spraying Lysol around the store hoping to keep the germs away.  So back to the crop. My husband usually works security for us but had to work late so my step brother came with his wife.  Then my brother who is my Tech guy for the store came to do some computer work.  I have a good friend who's birthday is today so we celebrated last night at the crop and her husband came.  I don't think I've ever been to a crop with men.  I also had a friend come for the b-day celebration that doesn't crop so I had a project for her.  I had a friend that brought me a box of buttons so my friend that doesn't scrap sorted buttons.  Then one of the husbands got in on the sorting.  It was very amusing. I got great pictures & they are on Facebook.  We also had a pajama party theme but only half of us wore them.  So till midnight we cropped & ate.  I didn't get home until after 1 am.  On the way home there was apparently a drunk driver cause he was driving on the wrong side of the highway.  If I had of been in the fast lane I would have been hit head on.  Thankful God kept me safe.  So getting to bed so late it was hard to get up & get back to the store.  Woke up with a migraine.  Getting old isn't fun.  Use to be able to stay up all hours of the night.  This spring I'll be the big 4..0..so hopefully I'll be able to keep hanging with these late night crops.  So if you are looking for a fun place to crop come check out Faithful Scrapper in Kaufman, TX.  Thanks to all my friends & family that came last night.  It was a great time.

It's getting busy around here.....

I have been busy getting crops, classes, & demos scheduled.  Have several embroidery orders.  God has been good.  My theme scripture through the whole adventure of starting the store has been Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.  He really is blessing the store and it is so good to see Him work.

Check out my facebook page for upcoming events.

What did we do before the Internet?

Well I feel out of sorts.  I did not have Internet all day at the store.  Not a good thing when you use the Internet all day long.  What did we do before computers?
Since I didn't have Internet I did some re-merchandising.  Also got some sewing done & needed to do some embroidery.  But once again without Internet I couldn't get on-line to download the embroidery designs I needed.

Anyone ready to make some Valentine cards?  I have a couple on display & will have a make & take coming up in February.  I'll have to get back with you on the date.
Well this is going to be short & sweet today.  I hope everyone is staying caught up on scrapping your holiday pictures.

My First post

I had a friend suggest I start a blog to help promote my business.  The problem is I'm not very good at writing.  I was the one in school that copied word from word from the encyclopedias when doing a report.  Yes, encyclopedias.  That's what we used before computers & could find info on-line.  Well I'm showing my age now.

I have had many jobs but have always wanted my own business.  I was working as an Administrative Assistant at an elementary school before I opened Faithful Scrapper.  Faithful Scrapper had been a previous scrapbooking store.  I had been a customer & when they announced they were closing I was so sad.  I had enjoyed getting to know the girls that worked there & getting my friends together to crop.  We called it "therapy".  I did alot of praying & had family & friends praying as well about buying the store.  It was about a year process as they stayed open for a long time trying to clear out inventory.  God opened the door & the adventure began.  Leaving a job after 13 years was a major deal.  I feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants but it sure is fun.

I am hoping to use this blog to show ideas for scrapbooking.  It can be overwhelming if you are just starting to scrapbook.  I first started scrapbooking about 15 years ago when I met a Creative Memories consultant.  I had my first CM party & learned about acid free materials & how to preserve my memories.  I also learned it is ok to cut your pictures.  I didn't throw any away or would even think about cutting them.  I still had my negatives (again dating myself).  I loved decorating my pages & with each one getting more creative.  For beginners I would suggest starting with organizing your pictures by year.  Once you get them organized it is easier to put them on a page.  Well I hope this blog will help all types of scrapbookers.  I look forward to this part of my adventure.
